The Regina Mundi chess team competed in a regional competition in the Clayton Hotel today. Kate Harley (4.T), Emma Desmond (4.T), Aoibheann McGuire (2.P) and Grace Coughlan O’ Sullivan represented the school brilliantly today with each player playing individually and acquiring some wins and losses.
Although the students didn’t reach the podium, it was a fantastic occasion organised by the Cork Chess Club. The tournament was a Swiss style competition which consisted of 7 rounds of 10 minute matches where each player gained 5 seconds per move.
Schools travelled from far and wide across the county for this competition, with over 200 students competing, the standard was extremely high.
It was a thoroughly enjoyable event for all involved today.
Just a reminder that the chess club meet in the library every Tuesday at lunch time. All students, beginner or advanced are welcome!
