This week is Languages Week in Regina Mundi College, a celebration of language learning & linguistic diversity, coinciding with European Day of Languages on Friday 26th September.
We kicked off Languages Week this morning with a whole school assembly from the Modern Foreign Languages Department. The assembly featured speeches from many of our multilingual students, showcasing the wonderful variety of languages spoken in our school community, and what they mean to those who speak them. We were also treated to a beautiful performance of ‘La Vie en Rose’ and ‘Je Te Laisserai des Mots’ from some of our very talented 6th Year students. Thank you and well done to all who contributed!
Our aims this week are to raise awareness of the importance of language learning, to highlight the languages spoken in our school and to promote multilingualism. Language learning encourages intercultural dialogue and strengthens mutual understanding between different cultures and language communities. Languages are much more than a simple means of communication. They are living witnesses to the history, culture and identity of a people.
