Well done to our Senior Camogie team who won a hard-fought county final on Monday evening against St Mary’s of Charleville. In tough underfoot conditions the team played some brilliant camogie and created several scoring opportunities in the first half. One whole team move ended up with Emma Whelan stroking the sliothar home into the Charleville net to leave Regina Mundi leading by 1-4 to 0-2 at the short whistle.
In the 2nd half St Mary’s had a period of dominance to cut the deficit to 2 points with a goal of their own. The last 10 minutes proved to be a tense affair but a long delivery by Erin Cronin ended up in the net and put a bit of daylight between the teams on the scoreboard. The last few minutes were helter skelter as St Mary’s looked to close the gap, but Meadhbh O’Connell made 3 excellent saves to ensure that no more scores were conceded. The final score was Regina Mundi 2-7 St Mary’s Charleville 1-5.
Every player put in a stellar effort and Regina Mundi came away with a thoroughly deserved victory. All that was left was for team captain Caoimhe Power to be presented with cup. Many thanks to all those who braved the cold to come along and support the team, it was much appreciated.
This match also served as a Munster semi-final and now the squad can look forward to a Munster Final against Christ King.
