6th Year Geography & History Trip to Northern Ireland – Day 2

August 28, 2025

Our 6th Year History & Geography students started the day with a hearty breakfast that set us up for a brilliant final day in Belfast. First stop was Titanic Belfast, where students explored the story of the shipyard and even experienced the Shipyard Ride—our very own “rollercoaster” through history! Everyone came away feeling they could spend another half a day there learning about the Titanic’s story.

After a quick bite for lunch, we got a Black Taxi tour with our guide Dee, who brought the story of The Troubles to life and showed how far the city has come since the 1998 Good Friday Agreement. She shared some of her own personal experiences of growing up in Belfast during the Troubles. A special highlight during the black taxi tour was visiting the Eileen Hickey Republican History Museum, where students examined primary sources up close, including newspapers, photos, uniforms, rubber bullets, and weapons. We also visited Falls Road and the Shankill, before finishing at the Peace Wall, where everyone added a personal message of hope.

We’re now homeward bound for Cork after a fabulous two days of learning beyond the classroom. The girls were an absolute pleasure to bring away and fantastic ambassadors for RMC throughout. We would also like to wish Rebecca a big happy 18th birthday today—we loved celebrating with you!
