A huge congratulations to our Transition Year students, Ella Deasy and Freya Tynan, who were crowned winners of the Macroom Food Festival Cook-Off Competition. The competition took place at Macroom Town Square and was judged by chef Mark Doe.
Ella and Freya impressed the judge with their Asian-Style Fish Cakes, made with fresh haddock from K. O’Connell’s Fishmongers in Cork’s English Market, coated in crisp breadcrumbs from Lynch’s Bakery, Macroom, and served with Caroline Robinson’s cucumber and carrot ribbon salad and a homemade sweet chilli dipping sauce.
The girls were also highly commended for their fish filleting skills and showed fantastic confidence and culinary ability while cooking live in front of a crowd. Their impressive performance earned them first place and a brand-new iPad each.
