The Minor Soccer Team were beaten today by Colaiste Choilm Ballincollig. The score line at the end of the game was 5-0 but truthfully, it didn’t reflect the commendable effort made by our players.
Our opposition proved too strong for us despite the impressive skill and effort from our girls. The damage was done in the first half, mainly by two exceptional free kicks that gave Colaiste Choilm a lead that we never recovered from. Despite some fantastic saves from Tara Murphy and brave defending from our back line, we had no definite answer to our opponents’ sustained pressure.
However, it was a fantastic achievement to get to the final for two consecutive years. The best part about this team is that they are resilient. They chased every ball, never pulled out of a tackle and would not stay grounded after a challenge. Hence, they will no doubt be back stronger and tougher next year.
The girls are already looking forward to this competition again in September where they can try to learn from today. Well done on a fantastic cup run girls and hard luck!
