As a precursor to Science Week, Transition Year students spent last Thursday at the National Maritime College of Ireland in Ringaskiddy to learn about careers in the Maritime Sector. Students learned about how people escape from a submerged helicopter, how to pilot a ship into New York Harbour, the importance of Spanish Yellow and International Orange as well as the fantastic opportunities for qualified seafarers. Students were particularly impressed with the idea of being in charge of a cruise ship in the Carribean and several experienced seasickness on the Virtual Bridge.
Students were very impressed with the facilities and thoroughly enjoyed the tours and talks.
