Wednesday was a very busy and exciting day for science in the library as we hosted our SciFest@School Exhibition 2026. TY Science Exhibition students and Second Year Science students were in attendance to showcase and display their SciFest and CBA science projects.
To evaluate the projects, we were delighted to welcome a panel of judges with a wide range of expertise, including representatives from UCC, EirGrid, and a former science teacher. The judges spent an hour speaking with the TY students and assessing the work they have carried out over the past couple of months.
The TY students presented the following projects:
The Invisible Wallet – Claire Haligon, Lucy Murphy & Melissa Morrison
How Social Media Affects Perceptions of Beauty – Ciara Ginty, Grace Murray & Aoife Poulter
Analysing Processed vs Unprocessed Food at Petrol Stations – Lucy Sullivan & Sophie Culligan
Food Sustainable Tracker Website – Ruth Kingston
Do People Choose Food Products Based on Colour? – Jessica O’Connell & Brooke O’Halloran
Walking in Sleep – What Really Causes Somnambulism? – Emily Byrne
Our Second Year Science students also had the opportunity to present and discuss their Science CBAs with some of the visiting judges, gaining valuable feedback and insight into their work.
Later in the day, First Year students visited the exhibition where they had the chance to hear about the projects on display. It was a good opportunity for younger students to see the exciting science projects they can look forward to in the coming years.
The day concluded with the presentation of awards to the TY students. Huge congratulations to Ruth Kingston, who took home the top prize for her project Food Sustainable Tracker Website. A special mention to Emily Byrne, who was awarded the runner-up rosette for her project Walking in Sleep – What Really Causes Somnambulism?
Well done to all students involved for their hard work.
