The Regina Mundi Chess Team competed in the Cork Chess League Individual Open Competition 2026. Congratulations to Grace Coughlan O’ Sullivan (3.T), Aoibhinn McGuire (3.P) and Ellie Diessel (2.Z) who represented the school fantastically.
All players experienced wins and losses throughout the day. The format of the games was as follows: A 10 minute timer for each player and each player received an extra 5 seconds on their clock per move.
Schools from every corner of Cork competed in this event which was brilliantly organised in the Clayton Hotel.
A special mention goes to Ellie Diessel (3.Z) who won 5 of her 6 games which placed her in joint third position in her age category, consisting of 88 students.
We’d like to remind all of those who play chess or want to learn that chess club occurs in the library at big lunch every Thursday. All students are welcome!
