Congratulations to Transition Year students Ella Deasy and Freya Tynan, who have qualified for the final of the Macroom Food Festival Schools Cook-Off Competition.
Their chosen dish – Asian-Style Fish Cakes: Fresh haddock from K. O’Connell’s Fishmongers in Cork’s English Market, coated in crisp breadcrumbs from Lynch’s Bakery, Macroom, and served with Caroline Robinson’s cucumber and carrot ribbon salad and a homemade sweet chilli dipping sauce.
Preparations are well underway. As part of the experience, Ella and Freya visited K. O’Connell’s Fishmongers, where they learned how to fillet the haddock before shopping for the rest of their produce in the English Market.
The girls will put their culinary skills to the test when they cook live in front of the crowd this Sunday, 20th September, in Macroom Town Square.
