Minor Soccer Team

The Minor Soccer Team secured their place in the Cork Cup Final today with a convincing 2-0 win against Ashton College.
The wet and windy weather in Douglas Hall didn’t discourage the team in the slightest. They were fully prepared and ready for the challenge and they thankfully came back to the school with the victory.
Regina Mundi controlled the ball for the majority of the first half and we constantly pressured the opposition goal which resulted in a few chances but unfortunately, we couldn’t take the lead. The breakthrough came from Mia Quille who saw herself through on goal. She expertly fired the ball over the keeper until it ricocheted off the crossbar and crashed into the goal which gave us the deserved lead.
The second half began in similar fashion, plenty of good play and chances but no goal. Until Chloe Murray picked up the ball in the final third on the left side, dribbled past two defenders and very calmly drilled the ball low into the net.
To Ashton’s credit, they defended well throughout the game and they created a couple of attacks which looked promising. If it wasn’t for Grace Murray in goal and our solid backline, we wouldn’t have secured a clean sheet.
Everyone played their part in the win and now we turn our attention to the final. The details of the final are to follow.
Well done Girls!
