Leaving Certificate Geography trip to Fota Wildlife Park

May 12, 2025

The 5th and 6th Year Geography students visited Fota Wildlife Park on Friday. They were treated to a lecture on the Amazon rainforest in the new education building. This was followed by interactive workshops exploring the characteristics of the rainforest; plant adaptations; and the impact of human interaction with and deforestation of the Amazon. The afternoon touring the animals in the sun and looking at how tapirs, capybara, spider monkeys, sloths and poison dart frogs have adapted to their environment proved to be everyone’s highlight. This was an invaluable introduction / revision of the topic preparing students for the Geoecology module.
