JUNK KOUTURE

CONGRATULATIONS to 3 TY students on their magnificent Junk Kouture creation. Hannah Roche, Aoife Thompson & Danielle O’Shea designed and constructed a dress called ATTIRE ON FIRE.
The design was inspired byTrish Summerville and is a symbol of feminism & how women are often portrayed as weak and dependant. Dragons represent power, strength & wisdom. The team thought a dragon perfectly represented women & how they are misunderstood in stereotypes.
Attire On Fire demonstrates Regina Mundi’s commitment to sustainability by promoting recycling. It is made of recycled plastic knives, (for the dragon’s scales), the neckline was moulded from paper mâché (old newspaper), the train was created using bin bags, old bed sheets, fishnets & tights to create the fire-like effect. Old wire bent into shape created the chains. Bin bags and wire were used to create two structured, movable wings. The headpiece is made of wire, masking tape, sponge, drink cans & paper. Old high heels were covered in recycled jewellery. Other accessories were made from tin cans & plastic knives. A really great effort!
