The RMC school community was delighted to play host to two visiting teachers from our sister school Dahon High School in Lesotho during the past week. Ms Molly Matthew and Ms Mathakane Motsekalle were welcomed to Cork by teachers and students alike and during their stay had the opportunity to visit class groups as well as some local landmarks such as Blarney Castle, Cobh, Shandon and UCC.
The visiting teachers, accompanied by the Principal, Deputy Principal, Ms O’Brien and Ms MacCarthy and class 3Theta, were also received by Lord Mayor Cllr. Catherine Clancy. The Lord Mayor was delighted to hear of the joint work undertaken by both school and praised the efforts of students and teachers alike.
The school community was also honoured with a visit from the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Lesotho to Ireland, Mr Paramente Phamosa, during the visit of the teachers from Dahon High School. A formal school assembly was held to mark the event at which TY students outlined the work they have undertaken as part of the Development Module course in conjunction with Plan Ireland and Worldwise.
The visit of Ms Matthew and Ms Motsekalle has strengthened the links between our schools and we were delighted that our guests joined in the annual RMC céilí held during Seachtain na Gaeilge and performed their traditional song and dance for us also. RMC staff members Ms Flynn and Ms MacCarthy will pay a return visit to Dahon High School in May.
