As part of the Leinster House outreach programme several members of Dáil Éireann visited Regina Mundi College on Monday 8th October. Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine Simon Coveney TD, Jerry Buttimer TD, Michael McGrath TD, Ciarán Lynch TD and Senator Deirdre Clune addressed the student body and answered their quiestions on a wide range of topics which included lowering the voting age, the introduction of quotas on the number of female candidates in an election, Junior and Senior cycle reform and what it means to be Irish in 2012. The public representatives were accompanied by Mr Noel Murphy of Leinster House and he outlined to students the workings of the Oireachtas and the passage of legislation through the Houses of the Oireachtas. We would like to thank Mr Murphy and the public representatives for visiting us and we look forward to continuing with them the many debates begun here in school last Monday.
