As part of Regina Mundi College’s 50th Anniversary Celebrations our Debating Society has hosted a debating competition open to students attending Cork schools. The earlier rounds of the competition took place in February and March with the final scheduled for late April.
The motion for the final of the Junior Competition is “This house would make community service a compulsory component of the Tranision Year Programme” and for the Senior Competition “This house would promote positive discrimination to encourage diversity in universities in Ireland”. Finalists include students from many Cork schools – Christian Brothers College, St. Al’s, Mount Mercy College, Rochestown College, St. Angela’s, Presentation Brothers College, Christ King Girls Secondary School, Coláiste Chríost Rí and Regina Mundi College. The Regina Mundi College Debating Cups, which will be presented to the winners, have been kindly sponsored by the Douglas and District Lions Club. Special thanks also go to the Regina Mundi College Debating Society for hosting the competition and to teachers Ms Lorraine Chadwick, Ms Ciara Hegarty and Ms Eimear O’Connor for their tremendous work in organising the event.
